Grafana is a very powerful and popular open source dashboard tool used in many ClickHouse projects. ClickHouse in Grafana is enabled by the Grafana ClickHouse plugin developed by the company Vertamedia, a ClickHouse early adopter. Many users in the community now depend on the Vertamedia implementation.

It has been quite a while since we announced the previous 'Altinity Stable’ ClickHouse in December 2018. Since then there have been a lot of changes and new features in ClickHouse. The core team has merged almost 1000 pull requests, and 217 contributors completed about 6000 commits. Unfortunately, during those months of active development ClickHouse suffered from stability issues. We have been working hard together with the core ClickHouse team to nail them down. Altinity is happy to introduce ‘Altinity stable’ ClickHouse release marking. Altinity stable releases undergo additional testing from our side, we carefully monitored community feedback for any issues, as well as operated such releases in some heavy loaded production systems.

ClickHouse team has released 1.1.54385 version recently. This is yet another bugfixing update in a row of small updates that followed 1.1.54378 release from mid-April. Unfortunately, ClickHouse test coverage is not perfect, and sometimes new features are accompanied by disappointing regressions. ClickHouse team certainly addresses problems in hotfix releases, but ClickHouse streamlined release version numbering makes it not easy to distinguish hotfixes from the feature releases. So how to decide is it safe to upgrade or not?

ClickHouse team and community contributors actively develop ClickHouse adding many new features, improving performance and flexibility. Unfortunately, sometimes it affects stability of the product. We were very upset by some unexpected regressions in recent ClickHouse releases. After initial testing of latest 1.1.54380 version we think it may be a good candidate for the new stable release. Previous releases free from severe issues were aged 1.1.54292 and 1.1.54327.Read More

It took a while for Yandex to respond to numerous community requests regarding release notes. But finally it's there. On August 21-st Yandex created a changelog file covering releases starting from 1.1.54245, and they keep it up to date so far.

ClickHouse is an exellent DBMS with very smart people working on it. Unfortunately, it still lacks some important communication procedures, and arguable the most wanted one is release notes.
Altinity mission is to make ClickHouse use easy for everbody, and we will try to fill the gap between Yandex and end users.
Below are release notes that Yandex team presented at the recent meetup in Ekaterinburg. It includes changes and new features appeared in latest 1.1.54231 release as well as some others that were not yet documented or publically explained.
